I put pretty much everything by Ellen Lupton on hold at the CPL†, and this one is another that was worth it.
A really thoughtful treatment of the chaotic experimentation of the 80s and early 90s where a new attempt to remix the ever larger kitchen sink of design history was supercharged with new physical and digital technology - and generally work that has held up, all the more impressive considering it was compiled in 1995.

The ZAZ troika themselves compile a loving scrapbook that alternates between telling their path to selling the movie and deep dives into various actors and aspects.
No huge exposé here but the career stuff is fun and some of their throwaway gags are next level. To wit:
Jim: L.A. was so different. Beaches. Perfect weather. Vanity license plates. They didn't have those in Wisconsin back then, so even they were a discovery. When I realized I was jeopardizing my life just having a motorcycle in L.A., I bought an old Chevy. I got vanity plates that said, "Bob's MG." People would pull up next to me at red lights and say, "Hey, buddy, that's not an MG." And I'd say back to them, "Well, I'm not Bob."
